Goodman GMVM97 Modulating Gas Furnace
Note: the observed listing is a different size to the spec above.
8 of 10 catalog products carry at least one real, seller-observed equipment-only price, gathered 2026-08-24 -- 80% against the >=70% gate. The two unpriced products (carrier-infinity-59mn7, pre-existing; trane- xr80, new) were researched at every dealer-network and retail channel checked and left unpriced rather than estimated -- see price_seed_ addition.py's SKU_CHECKS_ADD entries for both, recorded status no_public_price. A genuine, disclosed pricing-confidence spread within the 80% that IS priced: 6 of the 8 observations come from an identifiable retailer or distributor's own in-stock listing (hvacdirect.com, iwae.com, walkairdirect.com, theacoutlet.com, and two eBay listings from named, identifiable HVAC-supply business sellers). The remaining 2 are lower- confidence: amana-amvm97's price comes from Freeman Liquidators (explicitly disclosed insurance-loss/liquidation stock, "MIGHT BE SOME SLIGHT CABINET DAMAGE"), and daikin-dc96v's comes from a single individual eBay seller in open-box condition with no second listing to cross-check against -- the single weakest-confidence price in this entire expansion, flagged explicitly in its own note field rather than presented at equal confidence to the rest. platform/core/pricing.py's PER_TON_BANDS dictionary DOES define a plausibility band for furnace (confirmed by reading it directly, in contrast to boiler and solar-panel, which the boiler dossier found have none) -- this run's own price/capacity figures were checked against it and no observation was rejected. Not independently re-derived or edited this pass.
97% AFUE modulating condensing furnace at a notably lower price point.
Our take
Goodman's reputation lags its current product, which is a legacy of equipment it made two decades ago. The GMVM97 modulates, has a variable-speed blower, and carries a lifetime heat exchanger warranty — and costs meaningfully less than the equivalent Carrier or Trane. The trade-off is a thinner dealer network and less consistent installation quality, which on a furnace matters more than the badge.
Best for
Budget-conscious gas replacements where a good local contractor stocks it.
Watch out for
Warranty terms depend on registration and on the original owner. Confirm before assuming the lifetime heat exchanger coverage applies.

Equipment price is not installed price. The listings above are what the hardware costs. Installation — labour, electrical, refrigerant lines, permits, removing the old system — is typically a similar amount again, and varies more between contractors than between brands. Where we have an installed figure it is labelled as such and comes from someone who actually installs.

Before you buy this
Ask whether the AFUE rating on the quote is for this specific model or a nameplate range. If it's being paired with a new air conditioner, ask for the AHRI reference number for that exact indoor/outdoor combination — a high-efficiency furnace matched to the wrong coil won't deliver its rated numbers. And ask for a Manual J load calculation rather than a like-for-like swap of the old unit's output.
