A genuine, disclosed limitation found this run: platform/core/pricing.py's PER_TON_BANDS dictionary defines $/ton plausibility floors and ceilings for heat-pump, mini-split, central-ac and furnace only -- boiler (and solar-panel) have no band defined at all. Our take
Combi boilers are the standard answer in Europe and are gaining here for good reason: one appliance, one vent, no water heater taking up floor space. Navien's turndown ratio is the specification that actually matters and is rarely discussed — a boiler that can throttle to a fraction of full fire on a mild day stops short-cycling, which is what destroys efficiency and boilers alike.
Best for
Homes with hydronic heat replacing both an old boiler and a separate water heater, especially where mechanical room space is tight.
Watch out for
Combi units are a compromise on domestic hot water for large households with simultaneous demand. If two showers run at once, consider a boiler plus indirect tank instead.

Before you buy this
Ask about turndown ratio, not just efficiency — a boiler that can't modulate down to your house's actual heat loss on a mild day short-cycles, and short-cycling is what wears a boiler out early. Confirm whether your radiators or baseboard were sized for the supply temperature this boiler will actually deliver. And ask for a heat-loss calculation instead of matching the old unit's output.
