Our take

The largest usable capacity per unit in our set, with a warranty specified in energy throughput rather than years alone — a more honest measure if you plan to cycle daily for time-of-use arbitrage rather than leave it sitting for outages. FranklinWH is less known than Tesla or Enphase, which is a real consideration for a 15-year commitment, but the product itself is well specified and its aGate controller handles whole-home backup and generator integration cleanly.

Best for

Daily-cycling time-of-use arbitrage, and whole-home backup where generator integration is wanted.

Watch out for

Smaller company, shorter track record. Weigh that against the 15-year warranty term.

Before you buy this

Size on continuous power (kW) for what you actually want backed up during an outage, not just usable capacity (kWh) — a well pump or a heat pump compressor starting can draw far more than its running wattage. List your essential loads and ask whether the proposed inverter can start them together, not just hold them once running. And confirm the quote isn't still claiming the 30% federal credit, which expired for anything placed in service after 31 December 2025.
