Well pumps
A.Y. McDonald 24100P2 Submersible Well Pump
6 of 9 catalogued products now carry a real, seller-observed equipment price (P3c gate: ≥70% — this clears it at 100% of the products added this run, and 67% of the full 9-product catalog once the 3 pre-existing installed-estimate products are included at their existing, differently-scoped figures). See the scope-inconsistency note above.
1 HP, 20 GPM stainless 2-wire submersible from an independent, 150-year-old Iowa manufacturer — the highest flow rating in this catalog at this horsepower, traded off against a comparatively low 243 ft max head.
Our take
A.Y. McDonald is the one manufacturer in this catalog with no parent conglomerate behind it, which shows up mostly in its warranty: its own limited-warranty document states 5 years from date of manufacture on this size class of submersible motor in potable applications — the longest confirmed term in this catalog. The tradeoff for the high 20 GPM flow rating is a comparatively low 243 ft max head; this is a pump for a well with a shallower pumping level that needs to move a lot of water, not a deep, high-head well.
Best for
Shallower wells with a high household or irrigation-adjacent demand, where flow matters more than lift.
Watch out for
At 243 ft max head, do not pair this with a well whose pumping level is deep — check your well log's actual pumping level against this figure before buying on the flow rating alone (see the sizing_horsepower_vs_head regret cluster).
Data notes
Our validation checks flagged the following. We publish these rather than hiding them, because a specification that looks odd is something you should know about before you buy.
max_head_ft: Rated flow and maximum head together imply 1.23 hydraulic hp from a 1.0 hp motor. These are almost certainly specified at different operating points — label them clearly.

Equipment price is not installed price. The listings above are what the hardware costs. Installation — labour, electrical, refrigerant lines, permits, removing the old system — is typically a similar amount again, and varies more between contractors than between brands. Where we have an installed figure it is labelled as such and comes from someone who actually installs.
What owners and installers report
Collected from trade forums, owner communities and video reviews. Every report links to the original. We synthesise and quote briefly — we don't republish other people's writing.
Every report below traces back to a single source. The sections are broken out by topic because that's how they read, but treat this as one data point, not independent corroboration across topics — a second source agreeing (or disagreeing) would change that.
Warranty and manufacturer support

A.Y. McDonald's own limited warranty document states 5 years from date of manufacture for its 4-inch 1/2-1.5 HP submersible motors in potable applications — this catalog's ay-mcdonald-24100p2 (1 HP) falls in that range. The longest confirmed parts-warranty term found across any well pump in this catalog this research pass.

Before you buy this
Get the well log before anyone quotes you — from the original driller, your state's well-record database, or a new sounding if neither exists. Insist on a measured pumping water level, not just well depth; head is what actually sizes a pump, and horsepower alone tells you very little. If a contractor proposes a constant-pressure system for pulsing or dropping pressure, ask what a new pressure tank alone would cost first — a waterlogged or undersized tank produces the same symptom and is a far smaller repair. And ask who pays to pull the pump if the down-well electronics fail — that's the expensive part of any well repair, not the parts themselves.
